Role Description

Our clients' clothing brand designs clothes for the modern mum. The brand is predominantly casual wear aimed at the busy mum and the successful candidate would have a good understanding of the customers clothing needs.

The clothing is stylish, good quality, functional and affordable. This is a New Zealand brand with the designs manufactured offshore. The brand was created 5 years ago as a response to lack of breastfeeding clothing available in New Zealand. They are a small team of 4 staff and the brand has grown at a fast rate with their collections expanding with each season.

Due to the rapid growth and popularity of the brand we are now looking for a Fashion Designer to assist with expanding the on-trend designs we offer.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Research fashion trends and similar designs, determining what the brands customers' like
  • Draw, sketch and plan new designs
  • Create spec sheets for new styles
  • Create size charts for each style for the website based on spec sheets
  • Testing and deciding on fabrics, colours, patterns and textures for each design. Collaborate with fabric manufactures to find suitable materials.
  • Work with other designers to create and build designs (including graphic designers for printed items)
  • Liaise with manufacture to make new samples, including carrying out fittings
  • Oversee the mass production of designs
  • Make sure sizing is constant across the brand
  • Create matching/aligned pieces for a collection
  • Help with forward planning for each season

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Current drivers’ licence
  • Current Passport
  • Wide range of fabric knowledge
  • Ability to create spec sheets/tech packs for styles to send to manufactures
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong time-management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • 1-2 years’ experience in the fashion industry in a similar role

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong time-management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Fabric design would be a plus.
